This design and the text, the layout, all flows together with the message of the poem itself. There are many references to leaves, to seasons, it’s a poem in first person so I picked a ofnt that looked like it could be handwriting! I also spaced the text in a way so that the lines would follow the diaganol slant of the leaves bordering the background. If I were to alter it, though, would the message be the same, would it be as strong? Would it even make any sense?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lets start with this. As a poem, the words are the same, but the background, spacing, and fonts are different. This is more distracting against the background as it already has many light\/white colors in it. The title is off to the right while the poem itself is off to the left, which may confuse a viewer as we usually read left to right. The way the poem takes up the entire screem in a loud bold font is successful to grab the readers attention to the words, but even as I re-read through this design, I find myself distracted by the complex background. Lets take a look at another design. It also has no almost no relation to the words in the poem. One could make a connection between Earth and seasons, but thats a stretch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Absolutely not. Not to be biased, and im not trying to hate on my own work but this is…terrible. The title is much smaller than the actual text, and the bagkround is plain enough that one might think it could work for a poem, but no, it does not. The main font if hard to read, placed oddly on the screen, and at points it contrasts with the bright lines in the background. In addition to this, there is no way that the font, the size, placement, or background relate to the theme of the poem itself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This one is less terrible, in my opinion. The text is too neon and that is slightly distracting, and the font doesnt fit the background image vibe. The animals in the image are calm, in nature, and the font contrasts by looking too electronic. The spacing is also quote distracting as most of the poem starts from the left, except for the last three lines. Those last three lines almost draw my attention there before the title itself. The animals in the photo and the nature element somewhat relate to the theme of the poem, but I also find them slightly distracting. In relation to the words “why are they there?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All in all, design is very important to consider when trying to present of convey any sort of message. The background should not be too distracting, the placement, font, and spacing of the text should allign with the theme and the background. Im going to put extra emphasis on the font style and color especially, because that would be what makes or breaks a design.
