For this design project, I wanted to go back to the basics of design. I decided to play a game that I often did when I was a child. This is a beach house made in the game Bloxburg, on Roblox. Check out my work!

For a walkthrough of the house, check out the video below, and then look even further beyond that as I explain some design elements I chose as well as why, and my history with this game.
I started playing this game at a very young age. I remember waking up every day, thinking I’d end up as an architect or interior designer. No matter the day of the week, I would log in to Roblox whenever I had free time, usually playing with my cousin, pretending we were working and had families. I would like to think now that I built/can build some pretty cool houses in this game, but it wasn’t always like this. Even know, knowing that this house is well-designed, some people are absolutely dedicated to their work on Bloxburg. A simple google search will show you:

Honestly, I chose this assignment semi-last minute. I didn’t think Id have time to complete the house and make this post, but here we are. I logged on to the game, and just started placing walls. This house actually came to me in a dream about my future, which made it exciting to be able to bring to life. After I got the plain gray walls placed, I started blocking out rooms in the house, window placements, and added floors as well as basic structures like stairs and a garage.
I flew from there, adding furniture, jumping between different rooms. First I focused on what I wanted the main “vibe” of the house to be. Beachy, relaxing. I decorated the living room first, using blue as an accent color throughout this room and much of the house to match the ocean. During my decorating of the living room, I knew I wanted to add some of my own interests in there, so I placed a telescope and a painting easel as if I would truly live in this house. Then, I moved to the kitchen, then the front office, the bathroom, and blocked out the rooms upstairs. That’s when I realized, many beach houses have large porches and beach access, so I went back outside during my editing and added a deck on the back of the house’s both 2nd and 3rd levels, then stairs down to the beach. As I was in this stage, I also looked up real life beach houses for some inspiration on how to paint the outside walls.
After these details, I moved back inside the house, all of my basic rooms on the second floor had been done, and I was inspired to add a basement apartment just like a house I had really stayed at over this past summer. I went to add some basic living appliances to the apartment and called it a day before going to work on the upstairs bedrooms. I once again wanted to incorporate my own interests, so I put much art on the wall in one of the rooms, and a hammock on the top deck. My dream would be to sit in that hammock and read, overlooking the beach.
At this point, I had been building for hours. I was exhausted, but it wasn’t quite done. I used accent colors that correspond with typical beach themes to paint the walls indoors, place house decorations, and even a plant wall with a UV light! Finally, I thought I was done, but then I remembered an old beach vacation I took with my family when I was young. The house we had stayed in had a back patio with direct beach access and a hot tub as well as an outdoor grilling station. I went back into editing mode as I added stairs down from the second deck, and blocked out fencing to access the back patio from the front yard. I added everything I wanted, left edit mode, and walked through the house. I had periodically done walk-throughs with my actual roblox character and it often lead to jumping back into build mode and tweaking small things around the home.
I’m so happy with this project, and it ultimately reminded me that there are so many ways to excersize design. I got to work on something that genuinely interested me, while playing a game, and incoorporating stories from my life into this home that I build. Try out Roblox’s bloxburg, or even Minecraft if you want to do similair things!
