This assignment overall was more of a refresher for me. I am graeteful to expand my knowledge on elements of design and best practices. I also believe in stretching norms and thinking outside of the box, though, when it comes to tradition. I am a CDS and Studio Art double major, and many of my studio classes, if not all of them have already covered the principles of design, along with when and how to best incorporate them.
I did enjoy doing the assignments for this unit, and learning about Vignelli, reading his advice. It is generally a good idea to trust a well-known designer, but even though he was great at his work, I believe there sometimes is no “right way” to design something. This, of course, depends on the intention and function. I enjoyed the Design Blitz post and getting to utilize my camera roll, shifting my focus to recognize the elements of design that I see in every day life too.
