Everyone, meet Bug! This is my kitten, estimated to be about 5-6 months old. You might be wondering… “estimated?” Yes. Today is 11/10/2025. I acquired this kitten on 11/6/2025. Here’s how:

In class on a regular Thursday, working hard on my projects, I suddenly get a call from my roommate. She explains that her boyfriend Malcolm has found a cat and has nowhere to keep it! The issue is, Maddie (my roommate) explains further, is that Malcolm feels bad leaving her at a shelter, but cannot take her home as she would disrupt the dynamic between the cats already in his household.

Alright…so at this point I had hung up on my roommate after telling her I’d try to think of a solution. This wouldn’t be the first time we had let a found cat into our dorm, but did the benefits outweigh the costs?

I called her back later in class and told her we could take in the cat for the night, and then decide what to do with it. At the time, all I knew was that Malcolm found a black cat running around. I was expecting some fully grown feral cat to be delivered to our dorm, but instead, a little kitten is brought to us. We asked Malcolm how he found her, and he explained that he had just seen her running around, and got her in his car. The local animal shelter had told him that she did not have a microchip, and his neighbors said that she looked like the cat of someone who had just moved out near them.

Our running theory is that someone had moved out and abandoned this poor baby. She was flea-ridden, I pulled off a tick, etc. Despite being outside for however long she was, we could immediately tell this was an indoor cat. She loved canned food and snuggles, and immediately got comfortable with being pet.

Her unique lack of a tail and interesting gait brought us to the name Bug, and after some discussion and calls to local vets, my roommates and I decided to adopt her.

Now, we are awaiting her first vet appointment and watching her become more and more comfortable in this environment. My roommate and I have been giving her unconditional love, and can’t wait to watch her grow with us through the last 2 years of college and beyond!
