Check out what I have learned over the past few weeks while exploring video production and creativity! From reading amovie, to applying that knowledge, to creating my own videos…wow has this been a journey.
I learned that storytelling isn’t just about assembling pieces. Each post, each clip, each character sketch made me slow down and notice what wasn’t being said. I learned that sometimes the most honest stories are the ones that feel like they’re still becoming.
What was harder than I expected? Letting go of control. I wanted clean arcs, perfect metaphors, tidy resolutions. But the material resisted. Videos didn’t line up. Narratives unraveled. I had to sit with the mess and find meaning in the tangles. That drove me a little crazy—as someone with video editing experience doing the character sotry assignment, I struggled with being a perfectionist.
What was easier? Feeling something. Even in the most random clips, there was a pulse. A cat brushing against a leg. A skater falling and laughing. A voice cracking in a college confession. As someone who has tried and/or been through all of these events, I really connected with some of these assignments.
What I enjoyed most was the moment when everything clicked. From research to video assebly. I really love how this assignment forced me to branch out in my video creativity as I had not previously been able to pick my own video assignments. I will be taking some of these skills I learned and applying them to my study abroad experience in Scotland this summer.
